Should the New Year actually be September 1st?

So what did Harry wind up DOING when grown up?

Neville Longbottom became Herbology professor at Hogwarts, but his is the only major character's career that's mentioned.

You know, I liked the idea of the epilogue but I wish she'd provided more info regarding what on earth happened to everybody. Harry had a couple of ambitions during the series, but we're not told what he decided upon. I'd have expected Hermione to be a professor at Hogwarts, but obviously she's not. So, what did a brainiac like her become? Heck, I'd like to know what Draco Malfoy does for a living, come to that.

Did Hermione's family return from Australia after Voldemort's demise? Did Harry ever reunite with his own Muggle family? After all, Dudley allowed as how he didn't consider Harry to be a "waste of space". Considering all that had gone on before, it was akin to a sloppy display of affection on his part.

Maybe this stuff'll be covered in the forthcoming encyclopedia?

In her interviews last week on the "Today" show, JKR said that Harry and Ron both became Aurors and Hermione went into Magical Law--ironic because of her retort to Scrimgeour when he came to deliver the articles Dumbledore had willed to them.

The answers to your other questions are now matters of speculation, but expect them to be addressed in the forthcoming encyclopedia. As to Draco, I expect he lives off his family's money.

She decided against a more detailed epilogue because it didn't work literarily.

What, exactly, is it Aurors do? I've forgotten.

Harry's parents were aurors and most of the Order of the Phoenix were too, I think. Superheroes who go after the Big Bad Guys is my general impression of their job description.
:-p

Now that Tom Riddle's dead as the proverbial mackerel, I wonder how brisk the Auror business is?

To extend the Nazi metaphor (that some believe is made more overt in Deathly Hallows, just because Hitler's dead doesn't mean there aren't a lot of sympathizers and skinheads and "Aryan Nation" types running around.

An Auror's work is probably never done.

Yeah, they were like the wizard FBI (would MI-5 be more appropriate?), I think. Not so much superheroes, but highly trained catchers of bad guys.

There will always be bad guys. It's not like Slytherin House was shut down, after all. ;-) It's just that most of the time, the aurors will be able to handle the job now, unlike when TMR was top dog. But there will still be wizard crime.
